STAR+PLUS is a Texas Medicaid program for adults age 65 and older or adults with disabilities who want health care and in-home support services so they can live at home instead of a nursing home.
It combines regular Medicaid health care (like doctor visits and prescriptions) with long-term care supports such as help with daily activities.

You can apply in several ways:
📌 Online: Use the Your Texas Benefits website.
📞 Phone: Call 2-1-1 (TTY 711), Monday–Friday, 8–6 CT.
📬 Mail: Request and mail a paper application.
🏢 In person: Visit a Texas HHS office or partner agency.
Once approved for Medicaid, you’ll choose a STAR+PLUS health plan that manages your care.

Yes — with some rules.
✔ STAR+PLUS allows you to choose certain family members or friends as your paid caregiver.
✖ However, spouses are generally not allowed to be paid caregivers under this program.
✔ The person you choose must meet requirements like passing a background check and participating in training/orientation.
This means your adult children, siblings, nieces/nephews, or other approved relatives can be paid caregivers in many cases.

If the program approves home supports (like personal care), you can get paid help for daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, eating, and moving around.
STAR+PLUS includes options like Consumer Directed Services (CDS) — meaning you have more control over who your caregiver is.
