Companion Care for Seniors in Texas
Friendly, dependable in-home company and light support — conversation, meals, errands, and a steady presence — for older adults across DFW, Houston, and San Antonio.

What companion care covers
Companion care is non-medical, in-home support focused on social engagement, daily routine, and household help. It is the right fit for older adults who are largely independent but benefit from regular company, an extra set of hands around the house, or family peace of mind during the work day.
Newport companion care depends on chemistry — we spend real time on personality and interests during intake, not just availability.
What a Newport companion does
- Conversation, reading aloud, hobbies, and games
- Meal companionship — sharing breakfast, lunch, or dinner
- Light meal preparation and clean-up
- Light housekeeping — dishes, laundry, tidying
- Medication reminders (companions do not administer medications)
- Errands — grocery shopping, prescription pickup, post office
- Transportation to appointments, religious services, or social outings
- Pet care assistance — feeding, walking, vet visits
- Gentle encouragement to stay active and engaged
- Family check-ins after every visit
Why families choose Newport companion care
Personality matching
We take the time to find a companion the client genuinely enjoys — not whoever is on shift. Continuity follows from chemistry.
Same face, same time
Whenever possible the same one or two companions stay with the case so trust builds and the client looks forward to visits.
Smooth escalation
If needs grow over time, the same Newport agency can step up to Personal Assistance Services or skilled nursing — no new intake, no new care team.
When companion care is the right choice
Companion care is most often a fit when the client does not need hands-on help with bathing, transferring, or medical care, but isolation, mild memory changes, or recent life events (loss of a spouse, adult children moving away, no longer driving) have made daily life feel heavier. It is also a common choice for families who want a trusted set of eyes on a parent during the work week without taking on the cost or intensity of personal care.
Companion care is generally paid privately — out-of-pocket or through a long-term care insurance policy. It is not covered by Medicare or Texas Medicaid PAS. If a client’s needs grow over time, Newport’s care managers can reassess and transition the case to PAS or skilled nursing without changing agencies.
Set up companion care
The first conversation is free, and we will not place a companion until you and the client are ready to proceed.
Frequently asked questions
What does a companion caregiver actually do?
Conversation and company, shared meals, light housekeeping, errands and rides, support with hobbies and activities, and a regular check on safety and wellbeing at home.
Is companion care covered by Medicaid?
Companion-style support is often delivered as part of authorized PAS hours for STAR+PLUS members. Stand-alone companion care is typically private pay or long-term-care insurance. We’ll help you figure out which fits your situation.
Can I book companion care by the hour?
Yes — hourly visits, set weekly schedules, or occasional visits all work. There’s no long-term contract.
Will my parent see the same caregiver each visit?
We match for personality and schedule, and continuity is the goal — the same caregiver as often as possible, so the visit feels like a friend arriving, not a stranger.
